A team of inspectors from Water and Environmental Sanitation, Osogbo West Local Council Development Area, Oke Arungbo, Osogbo, on Wednesday, inspected the foamy smelly water in front of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Province 1, Ogo Oluwa area, Osogbo, State of Osun.
OSUN DEFENDER had in its last edition reported that residents of the area had alerted the State Government and the Ministry of Environment on the danger posed by the stinking water.
The residents noted that the contaminated water has been polluting the air and threatening their healthy living.
However, the sanitation team, after assessing the environment, said the smelly water was a result of a barrier created to block its free-flow.
Speaking with OSUN DEFENDER, the Director, Water and Environmental Sanitation of the LCDA, Mrs Monsurat Kolapo, said notice has been passed on to the people involved to get the barrier broken and allow free passage of the water.
She said: “ We came here to inspect what was going on, and we discovered that the covert was done by the government with an exit for the free flow of water but that exit has been blocked by some people.
“We have instructed the occupants of the two buildings to break the barrier and after that, we will find a permanent solution to it by installing rings for water to pass freely without affecting the walls of the two buildings.”
