Sacked Kano Commissioner Leaves NNPP, Defects To APC
Abbas Sani Abbas, the former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, has defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abbas made the announcement during a visit to the Kano residence of Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, on Friday night.
Abbas’s defection is part of a larger wave of political shifts from NNPP to APC. Over the past six months, hundreds of NNPP leaders from all 44 local government areas of Kano State have left the party, along with thousands of their supporters.
This mass defection, which has been dubbed the “Barau Tsunami,” saw many NNPP members abandoning the red cap symbol of the Kwankwasiyya movement in favor of the APC.
This wave of defections follows the dismissal of five commissioners, including Abbas, by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf last month.

The sacking occurred after calls from some NNPP leaders for Governor Yusuf to take more firm control of governance in the state.
Abbas, who was among those dismissed, pledged during his visit to work towards the success of the APC in Kano and beyond.
Senator Barau, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, received Abbas at his residence alongside the APC Chairman in Kano State, Prince Abdullahi Abbas (Ɗan Sarki, Jikan Sarki), and other party leaders.
Barau welcomed Abbas and assured him that the APC is committed to building a better future for the people of Kano State and all Nigerians.
He emphasized that the APC is large enough to accommodate all those who are dedicated to good governance, inclusivity, and service to humanity.
