Rector’s Suspension: OSPOLY Resumes Academic Activities

The management of Osun State Polytechnic Iree, OSPOLY has announced the date to resume academic activities.

In a statement on Friday, Mr. Oyesowo Lawrence on behalf of the acting registrar, Oyedele Oloyede, stated that the academic activities will resume fully on Monday, 14th August, 2023.

According to the statement, “I am directed to inform the Polytechnic community that the academic activities will resume on Monday, 14th August, 2023.

“In view of this, all members of staff are to resume for duties as appropriate. You are hereby advised to comply accordingly.”

OSUN DEFENDER recalls that academic activities of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, had been shutdown since July 25, 2023 following a protest embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnic (ASUP) to register their displeasure over the suspension of the institution’s Rector, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo.

Many lecture rooms were deserted as scores of students were seen watching the happenings while others were going back to their different houses.

The Union which condemned the suspension, described the step taken by the state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke as an aberration against the constitution of the institution and has suspended the school academic activities over the suspension.

Speaking on the suspension, the President of the union, Dr. Fatai Afolabi while addressing a mammoth crowd who were in solidarity rally for the suspended rector, frowned at the action of the governor.

As a result, the Osun State Government set up a seven-man investigative panel to look into the suspension of the Rector, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Tajudeen Odetayo and find means of resolving it.

Odetayo, while speaking with OSUN DEFENDER said he was not aware of the issues leading to his suspension.

Governor Ademola Adeleke also appointed Mr. Alabi Kehinde Adeyemi, as the institution’s acting rector.

“This is to communicate the approval of the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, to appoint Mr. ALABI Kehinde Adeyemi as the Acting Rector of the institution. Mr. Alabi Kehinde Adeyemi will take over from Dr. T.A. Odetayo who is being investigated over the allegations of financial recklessness, corruption and misappropriation of funds and abuse of office.

“The erstwhile Rector should step aside pending the time the allegations against him are properly investigated by relevant bodies,” the statement said.
