A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has remanded a 38-year-old-man, Inspector Sunday Ajayi for allegedly permitting escape of two accused persons kept in custody .
Sunday is facing a two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and permitting of two accused persons escape.
He pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun told the court that Sunday and others at large conspired to commit the offence to wit negligently permitting escape on November 1, 2017 in Osogbo.
He explained further that the accused person aid the escape of Kazeem Oladehinde and Idowu Hassan Adedapo from lawful custody.
According to the prosecutor, the two accused persons that escaped from police custody were standing trial on assault, malicious damage and stealing.
Olusegun added that the offence is contrary to and punishable under section 517, 137and 138 of the criminal code cap 34 volume 4 laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
The defence counsel, Mr Taiwo Awokunle urged the court to grant his client bail.
The magistrate, Mrs. A. O Ajanaku granted the accused person bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
One of the surety must be a civil servant, level 14 and the case was adjourned to May 23 for hearing.
