Police Clear Air On viral Picture Of Man Carrying Gun In Osun Protest

The State of Osun Police Command has said young man carrying an AK-47 rifle referred to, in mufti, in the viral picture was one of the policemen hurriedly deployed for the swift response operation.

Recall that Osun Defender had earlier reported some internet fraudsters, also known as ‘Yahoo-boys’ staged a protest against their arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The youths who blocked the entrance of the State of Osun Government house with different placards protested the incessant arrest by operatives of the commission.

Osun Police made the disclosure in a press statement released by Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yemisi Opalola, and made available to Osun Defender Correspondent in osogbo on Thursday.

Police spokesperson said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Dugbe Division, in the state had swiftly mobilized off duty officers to increase the number of security deployed for that duty.

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode in the release clarified that the young man referred to, in mufti, in the viral picture was one of the policemen hurriedly deployed for the swift response operation.

According to her, “The Commissioner of Police in order not to degenerate into chaos promptly waded into the situation before it will snowball to anarchy.
“Therefore, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Dugbe Division in the State capital swiftly mobilized some Policemen who were off duty to increase the number of men deployed for that duty. The young man referred to in mufti was one of the policemen hurriedly deployed for the Swift response operation.

“In the light of the foregoing, the Commissioner of Police urges the members of the public to disregard the information as untrue and deliberately penned not only to hit the body of police, but to also misguide and confuse the general public.

“At this juncture, the Commissioner of Police enjoins the good people of the state in particular, to continue partnering with the State Police Command in order to protect and serve them better, shun every act that can result into violence and thereby jeopardize the existing peace in the State”, she stated.
