Plateau Women Burn Down Traditional Ruler’s House

Some women who were protesting the recent attack in the communities of Bokkos Local Government Area of the Plateau State have burnt down the house of the district head of the town, Michael Adanchi.

OSUN DEFENDER reported that over 100 persons were attacked and killed in 17 villages in the Barkin Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos Local Government Areas of the state on Christmas Eve.

The attacks also displaced over 10,000 persons, many of whom were presently taking refuge in churches, mosques, schools, and private residences.

However, a source who spoke to Daily Trust, said the Friday incident occurred around 12.30pm.

The source was also quoted as saying that the women burnt down the house following the arrest of some members of the community for their alleged involvement in the recent killings in the area, adding that the traditional ruler’s residence and his administrative office were burnt down.

“The incident began at the police station where they expressed their anger over the arrest of some members of the community. After leaving the police station, they proceeded to the house of the traditional ruler, protesting that he was a sellout. A few minutes after reaching the house, they set it ablaze,” the source said.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident adding that the command would release a statement on the incident as soon as possible.

OSUN DEFENDER also reported that invaders threatened fresh attacks on a community in Plateau State on December 29, 2023, barely four days after they killed 195 persons in 17 communities across the state.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Middle Belt Forum, Stanley Kavwam, in an interview with Arise Television,  said the terrorists had sent a letter of an imminent attack to the Pushit community in the Mangu Local Government Area, where he hailed from.

When asked about the impending attack on the Pushit community, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Alabo Alfred, said the command was aware of the threat. “We have intelligence, but we are working on it,” the PPRO assured.

Also, some residents in Pushit, who spoke to one of our correspondents on Thursday,  said the villagers were aware of the threat letter by the terrorists.
