Plateau United Maintain Thier Standing Position at the Top

Nigeria Professional Football League leaders Plateau United maintained their position on the standing with a 2-0 drubbing of visiting Kano Pillars FC at the Rwang Pam stadium yesterday.

The Jos-based soccer lords, who have so far lost two games and drawn four, sit at the top with 25 points from 13 matches, while El-Kanemi Warriors who defeated Niger Tornadoes by the same margin in Maiduguri are the second position with 24 points from 13 games.

Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) FC, who were denied an away win against Enyimba last Saturday stay in the third position with 20 points from 11 matches, Kano Pillars are fourth with 20 points from 12 games, while ABS, who were hammered 3-0 by Remo Stars stay fifth on the standings with 20 points from 12 league games.

Awazie Ekene, Oche Salefu and Benjamin Felix scored the goals to secure maximum points for Remo Stars.

Despite the huge win, Remo Stars moved up by one place, pushing Wikki Tourists to the basement of the log. Remo has 12 points from 13 games while Wikki have 11 points from 11 matches.

At the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, Shooting Stars forced host Gombe United to a 1-1 draw at home.

Samuel Agba scored the match opener from the spot for the Gombe outfit while the Ibadan landlords evened the score through substitute Nonso Mbakwe.

Nasarawa United spanked visiting FC IfeanyiUbah 2-0 at the Lafia Township stadium to climb to number 10 on the standings. Lobi Stars also suffer a 1-2 loss away to Abia Warriors.

At the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo, Akwa United pounded Sunshine 3-1

Former MFM FC striker, Musa Newman scored the match opener in the 17th minute while forward, Ubong Friday grabbed a brace in the 41st and 43rd minutes for the Uyo outfit while Yahuza Bala scored the consolation for the Akure-based side.

Speaking after the win, Akwa United head coach, Abdul Maikaba expressed satisfaction with his side emphatic victory against visitors from Akure.

Maikaba said his side expected the convincing victory against Sunshine Stars given the quality of preparations prior to the crunch encounter.

The win against Sunshine Stars takes Akwa United total earnings to 19 from possible 39 points in the 13-week old top-flight and moved to sixth on the table.
