According to a statement made available to newsmen by the Permanent Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Fatai Kolawole, described the unified examination as a natural fallout of the unified science of work introduced a few years ago in an attempt to reposition basic education at the grassroots.

The topnotch educationists posited that the unified nature of the examination was developed to ensuring uniformity of education and by extension the delivery of standard teaching instructions by teachers statewide.

In his words “the beauty of the examination is that the candidates are encouraged to do independent work under a well-supervised examination condition. In that way starting early will slow them to imbibe examination malpractice later in life pursuits”.

While breaking the figures down, the SUBEB boss said, of the total 63, 409 pupils undergoing the exam, 30,955 of them were Grade 7 (JSS 1) pupils while the remaining 32,947 were Grade 8 pupils (JSS 2).
