How Osun Lost N75bn To Unremitted N8.1bn Revenue Under PDP – Aregbesola

By Ismaeel Uthman

The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has again expressed bitterness over the wanton corruption that characterized the immediate past Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Federal Government which resulted to economic woes for the country.

Aregbesola disclosed that a sum of N8.1trillion revenue was not remitted by some federal agencies and parastatals to the government’s cover under the PDP government, lamenting that such amount would have gone a long way in building the country, economically and infrastructure wise.

The governor said it was discovered that between 2010 and 2015, under the former President Goodluck Jonathan led administration, many government agencies and parastatals failed to make remittances to the coffers of the federal government to the tune of N8.1 trillion.

According to Aregbesola, Osun would have gotten nothing less than N75bn out of the N8.1trillion were the fund remitted to the government, saying that the state would have used the money to complete various infrastructural projects and embark on more.

The governor, who said the immediate past administration of the PDP did more harm than good to the economy of the nation, explained that the issue of economic recession wouldn’t have come up if not for the brazen corruption and mismanagement of the country’s resourses by the past government.

Aregbesola said: “It is unfortunate, the situation we have found ourselves in Nigeria because we are not supposed to be in this condition, if the immediate past PDP led federal government had done the needful, things would have been better for Nigerians.

“It is sad to know, as we have just discovered that, between 2010 and 2015 under the Jonathan led administration, many government agencies and parastatals failed to make remittances to the coffers of the Federal Government to the tune of N8.1 trillion.

“Out of this amount, at least N75billion would have come to Osun alone which we would have used to complete all our projects and even have enough money to embark on others.

“With this amount, a lot of states that are facing the challenges of salary payment would have cleared all salaries without stress.

“I am very sure, if that money was remitted, Nigeria wouldn’t have experienced recession at all and it is very unfortunate that we are still grappling with the consequences of the corruption attitudes of the past administration in the country.”
