The government of the State of Osun has commiserated with the management of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Gold Fm, Ilesa on the fire outbreak that gutted the radio station, describing it as an unfortunate incident.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state, Mr. Adelani Baderinwa who paid a condolence visit to the station on Monday, said the fire disaster has brought a setback to the dissemination of information in the state.
Baderinwa said the government shared in the pains of the FRCN management, just as he thanked God that no life was lost in the fire incident.
He promised that the state government would assist the radio station in making sure that all necessary help are garnered for its resuscitation.
The commissioner said: “We thank God that no life was lost in the incident. We call on everybody in the state to be conscious and very careful in handling electronic appliances, to prevent fire outbreak in the future.
“All well-meaning Nigerians should rise up to assist Gold FM for the resuscitation of the station. The role of Gold FM cannot be over emphasised in the media profession and economic sector.”
OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the fire incident started at about 5 pm on Saturday and destroyed equipment worth millions of naira.
Eye witnesses recounted that workers on duty noticed a wild smoke on the roof of the station’s building and raised alarm to the community.
It took the intervention of men of the Osun State Fire Service in Ilesa to put out the fire after about an hour.
Places affected at the radio station are the live and recording studios, engineering, programmes, marketing, Accounts and Administration departments.
