Senator Mudasir Hussein of the All Progress Congress(APC) On Wednesday emerged party’s candidate for July 8 by-election with 2,412 votes.

The election which took place at Distinguished Event Hall, Aje market in Egbedore local government has total of 3,100 delegates across the 10 local governments that make up the district.

Hussein who is formerly a commissioner in the state became sole candidate after late senator Isiaka Adeleke younger brother, Otunba Ademola Adeleke decamped to Peoples Democratic Party.

The chairman screening committee, Hon Sanusi Rikiji, who is an incumbent Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly declared Hussein as the winner of the election with 2,412 votes out of 2, 560 total delegates that participated in the poll.

The screening committee of the APC had earlier disqualified Hussain from contesting for the senatorial seat base on his alleged inability to meet up with the party’s guidelines.

The party however through National Working Committee dismissed the purported disqualification by screening committee and declared Husein eligible for the race.

It would be recalled that the primary election was postponed twice, from Monday till Wednesday, after another aspirant in the contest, Dr Ademola Adeleke faulted the process and thereafter withdrew from the race.

Adeleke resigned his membership of APC in a letter directed to the APC screening committee led Rikiji.

He however opted for the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP), where he clinched the ticket to contest for the Osun West senatorial by-election.
