Osun Assembly Lauds Aregbesola On Innovation

The State of Osun House of Assembly has charged officials of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology to develop strategy that could revive the economy in the state and transform the state in information and communication technology (ICT).

Chairman, House Committee on Innovation, Science and Technology, Honourable Olaolu Oyeniran gave the charge at a meeting with officials of the ministry, commending the Governor, Rauf Aregbesola for creating the ministry.

According to him, the committee called the meeting to set agenda towards using science, technology and innovation to find solution to some problems in the state.

He added that with the ministry in place, Osun now has the capacity to develop technologically, saying in the present day, it would difficult to develop without technology.

Also, Honourable Ajibola Akinloye urged the officials of the ministry to work as a team because their ministry cuts across all aspect of life.

In his contribution, Hon. Babatunde Olatunji noted that the new ministry will revive our economy in Osun if the officials are effective, saying, “We need to look at other ways to generate income in the state especially on Innovation”.

In his reaction, the Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Engineer Oluremi Omowaye commended the state Governor for establishing the ministry for the first time in the history of the state, saying the ministry has always been on the move to attract more development to the state.

He said the ministry was already working on solar energy to generate power for the state infrastructure development, just as the state website would be updated and maintained for the use of the people of Osun.

According to him, “We are going to put Technology Institute on their toes because a lot of resources are going there always“, saying, efforts was ongoing to get Zoological Garden at UNIOSUN, Computer Village at Osogbo and while the work is ongoing to secure solar energy at state secretariat and the House of Assembly complex.

He added that it is in the plan to engage and train 5,000 youths on ICT in the state.
