Omicron: OSHA Member Charges Citizens On Precaution Tips

Following report of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) on Wednesday, where three cases of Omicron variant of the COVID-19 pandemic was recorded in the State, a member of the state of Assembly, Hon Adenike Abioye has charged inhabitants of the State to follow outlined measures to tackle the spread of the deadly disease.

Abioye emphasized on the need for members of the public to ensure self protection towards averting mass spread of the disease.

She stated that proper measures will give the desired safety, noting that the variant is a major source of concern to the world at large.

Hon. Abioye who is the Chairman House Committee on Health explained that the findings of World Health Organisation,posited that the new variant has a large number of mutations, and early evidences observed an increased reinfection risk.

She added that if one should consider the position of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) genomic surveillance has revealed and confirmed Nigeria’s first cases of the B.1.1.529 SARS-CoV-2 lineage, now known as the Omicron variant. Samples obtained for the stipulated day two test for all travellers to Nigeria were positive for this variant in three persons with a history of travel to South Africa.

Honourable Adenike Abioye on behalf of the speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye enjoined residents and dwellers of the State who have taken the two jabs of the vaccine to as a matter of safety to do this she underscored would reduce their susceptibility but doesn’t avert their chances of contracting and infecting others who have not been vaccinated.

“All market women and men, transporters as well as passengers, eateries, restaurants, parks and gardens, motor parks, hoteliers, financial institutions and worship centres should frequently prioritize protection by wearing face mask in public places, avoiding crowded places, disinfecting hands and surfaces with alcohol-based sanitizer and regular hand washing. My people must abstain from unnecessary wandering about if we don’t have urgent or important things to do outside. The disease is contagious and cannot be identified with the carrier. Remember health is wealth.” She said
