OAU Student Death: Arrest Hamzat Now, Lawyer Urges Police

Mr. Abiodun Williams, one of the lawyers representing Rahmon Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Ile-Ife, State of Osun, where a post-graduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Timothy Adegoke, was allegedly killed, has urged the police to arrest the founder of an Ibadan based journalist, Oriyomi Hamzat, for claiming that Adedoyin and others killed the student.

Williams, who spoke to The Guardian via the telephone yesterday, asked the police to arrest the founder of the radio station to explain a purported CCTV footage that he claimed showed Adedoyin, his son, Raheem and one Moshood killed Adegoke in his hotel room before dumping his body in the bush.

The radio station founder had allegedly posted a video on his Instagram page and said that a Closed Circuit Television installed at the Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Ile-Ife, revealed how the owner of the hotel, Rahmon Adedoyin, his son, Raheem, and other staff members of the hotel including Adedoyin’s aide, Moshood, entered the room where the deceased lodged.

He said the CCTV showed that Adedoyin and others carried the body of Timothy out of the hotel room he lodged and dropped it in the boot of a car after allegedly killing him.

Timothy, a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University had lodged at the hotel when he came to write his examinations last year before he was murdered.

Reacting to the said CCTV footage, Williams said Adedoyin was not in Ile-Ife, talkless of being at the hotel when the incident happened.

He said the hotelier’s son, Raheem, was not also at the hotel, but he was later called on the telephone before he visited the hotel to evacuate the corpse of Adegoke.

He said he would drop his legal service once there is any concrete evidence that Adedoyin killed the MBA student.

According to him, “When you look at the video, you can’t see a minute or second in the video that will show proof of what he was saying. I can say without any fear or contradiction that Chief Adedoyin was not around on the day of the incident. He was not in Ife, talk less of being in the hotel and being captured by the CCTV. Also, there is no any Moshood in that place and that’s why I am challenging him (Hamzat) to produce the clip and show it to the world so that we can see the face of the murderer.

“I have contacted Chief Adedoyin himself and there is nothing like that. He was not there and the police do not have such evidence. So, where did he get his own from?”, the lawyer said.
