Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun has reiterated the Commission’s resolve that no one would be allowed to vote except they present their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
This was disclosed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun state, Olusegun Agbaje during a meeting with the leadership of the political parties in the state at the commission’s headquarters in Osogbo recently.
The REC said, a total of 1,254,467 PVCs (75.58%) have been collected, out of 1,681,930 received in the state leaving a balance of 427,463 PVCs (25.42) which is yet to be collected.
He denied given any PVC to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which according to him has been the claim of some political parties across the country.
He said, some of the worrisome among challenges the commission is confronting is ‘win at all cost attitude of politicians’ which according to him involves “deploying all sorts of illicit means such as vote buying, use of thugs to disrupt election process, raising of false alarm and dissemination of fake news to whip up unnecessary sentiments.”
“If we must get rid of all the wicked forces that have continuously threatened the credibility of our elections in Nigeria, the political class must change its ‘do or die’ attitude to good conduct in politics. “
The session eventually turn tumultuous as a party chairman disagrees with INEC on the conduct process of general election.
The Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) chairman in Osun state, Prince Gbade Adelakun snr, exchange hot argument with the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje on his approach on conducting credible election in the state.
The party chairman insisted that Osun REC does not have the prospect to conduct free and credible elections.
