Nigerian Entrepreneurs Push For Coconut Farming

As Nigeria seeks investments from agriculture, coconut production could be another lucrative venture for possible significant investment.

Despite having a million hectares of arable land suited for coconut farming, Nigeria is yet to produce enough coconuts to meet local demand which has forced traders to rely on other West African markets.

The coconut water that is bottled and can be frozen or not before distribution . A bottle of coconut water sells for about 1.25 dollars or more.

With a government drive to boost the agriculture sector, traders and food processors are calling for more investment and support for farmers to help boost coconut production at home.

A Nigerian firm is urging more local farms and investors to assisting in boosting the production potential of this fruit.

With an estimated 1.2 million hectares of arable land available for coconut farming in Nigeria about 36,000 hectares has been cultivated, leaving huge room for expansion.

But poor infrastructure and awareness of the vast possibilities are the major obstacles hindering agriculture development in Nigeria.
