NDLEA Destroys 16.97 Hectares Of Cannabis Sativa Farm, Arrests 258 Suspects

A total of 16.97 hectares of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana) farm planted in Ikire in Irewole Local Government Council Area and other parts of the State of Osun has been destroyed by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in the state.

The NDLEA has also arrested no fewer than 258 illicit drugs suspects between June 2019 and June 2020.

Equally, the agency has also seized 1,468.393kg of illicit drugs made up of 1, 450.991 kg of Cannabis Sativa and 17.402 kg of Psychotropic Substances.

The Commander of the NDLEA in the state, Samuel Egbeola, in a press statement made available to OSUN DEFENDER on Wednesday in Osogbp, revealed that the destroyed 18 bags of Marijuana weighed 273kg.

Egbeola stated that the arrested suspects comprised 219 males and 39 females.

The command marked 2020 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking tagged; “Better Knowledge for Better Care” on Wednesday.

Egbeola added that the Command secured seven convictions and counseled 82 drug-dependent persons made up of 43 males and 39 females.
