The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has advocated for inter-ethnic marriages to foster national unity.

The minister said this during the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja.

According to him, part of the Federal Government’s effort to ensure national unity was to promote marriages across ethnic lines.

“There is need to encourage marriages across religions, nationality and across several divisions,” he said.

Aregbesola, however, said that to achieve this, it was imperative to establish more marriage centers.

“My desire is to have as many marriage registries as possible operated by private individuals but administered by the Federal Government.

“We inherited six Federal marriage centers based in the six geo-political zones and we have increased that to 20 now,” he said.

He supported the liberalisation of marriages and making the process easy for Nigerians to marry, integrate and promote unity.
