NAMA Commences Plans to Increase IGR

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA has commenced moves to shore up its revenue base in order to meet its core obligation of air navigation service provision within the country’s airspace to stakeholders.

The Agency’s Management Director, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, stated that the move became necessary due to the rising commitment of the agency in upgrading navigational infrastructure, enhancing air traffic management services, building staff capacity and other personnel costs.

Akinkuotu, who made these remarks while receiving the report of the Revenue Mobilisation Committee set up by the agency, said the management would carefully study the report with a view to implementing relevant aspects of it.

“An improvement in the revenue profile of the agency would translate to a more robust NAMA, discharging its functions in a more efficient manner,” he said.

He also enjoined members of staff to be more prudent and avoid wastage in order to make the dream realisable.

In the quest to improve its revenue generating capacity, the agency said it recently inaugurated the Revenue Mobilisation Committee whose core term of reference was to extensively deliberate on the agency’s statutory revenue sources and develop strategies for more effective ways of generation and collection.

According to the agency, the committee, which sat between February and April 2018, came up with recommendations, which include improvement on the frequency of stakeholders’ engagement especially on matters relating to service delivery; media enlightenment of customers through various platforms; provision of incentives for prompt payment by customers.

Others, the agency said were improvement on the its e-payment platform, including deployment of Point of Sales in all revenue payment points nationwide, and maintaining constant liaison with the regulator and stakeholders in matters relating to the review of charges.
