Monarchs, Clerics, Vulnerables Benefit From Aregbesola’s Palliatives

By Solomon Odeniyi

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has begun the distribution of stimulus packages for every category of the people in the society, in a bid to cushion the effect of the hardship brought about by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Clerics, traditional rulers, party members, the vulnerables, transporters, among others in the state benefitted from the palliatives from the former governor of the state.

Items in Aregbesola’s palliatives were over 2000 50kg bags of rice, over 800 120kg bag of beans, spaghetti, yam, milk and lipton tea.

Secretary of the Palliative Committee, Hon Idowu Korede, who is a former State of Osun Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation said the food items were subjected to scrutiny and were certified good for human consumption.

Korede, in an interview with OSUN DEFENDER on Tuesday said: “People have been coming to pick up the palliatives. We have over 2000 50Kg bag of rice, over 800 120kg bags of beans, over 5000 tubers of yam, Spaghetti and Tea. We are distributing these items across the entire state.

“The beneficiaries are party members, clerics, transporters, the less-privileged, labour forces, organised and non-organized sectors of the society. The palliatives are all certified and confirmed fit for human consumption. This may not be all; as we are still expecting more.”

One of the beneficiaries of the palliatives, Mrs Omolade Ayilara, a widow in Ikirun appreciated Aregbesola for providing her the food items, describing it as the first relief gift she received since the lockdown began.

A physically challenged person, Kehinde Ogedengbe, who benefitted from the palliatives, said it was kind of Aregbesola to consciously make provision for the less-privileged and the people that actually need the gesture.
