The caravan’s migrants continued to gather on Friday in Tijuana, on the American border, in northwestern Mexico, where their frustration was growing due to the lack of opportunities to enter the United States, while the mayor was demanding their expulsion.
After traveling 4,300 kilometers on foot, by truck or by bus, the migrants of this caravan began to discover how difficult it would be to reach their American dream.
Queues were formed in the afternoon at the border crossing of El Chaparral to register on a list of asylum seekers, which already included 1,400 names, mostly registered before the arrival of the caravan .
Saturated by the demands, the American authorities could not treat Friday about thirty cases.
Generally, they receive between “30 and 90 migrants per day,” told AFP a volunteer at the National Institute of Migration, which recorded the identity of migrants. To handle all the records of those of the caravan, “it will take months,” he said, resigned.
Osman Bueso, a 28-year-old Honduran who was one of the first caravans to join the city, was frustrated.
“I did not do all this in vain, I’ve been on the road for 35 days to reach the border,” he told AFP.
“We are not afraid, we are ready to die if we have to, when you live in poverty and violence, it is better to die than to live (…) I do not think that Trump will be able to block thousands of people, “he said, referring to measures ordered by President Donald Trump to prevent migrants from entering the United States illegally.
According to the authorities, more than 3,200 caravan migrants are now in Tijuana, and about 2,000 more are expected to converge in the coming days.
In total, about 8,000 migrants are currently in Mexico to reach the United States, divided into different caravans, most of which have fragmented during their journey.
