Man In Court For Defrauding Secret Lover, Husband Of N.5 Million

The Osun state police command has arraigned a 45-year-old man, Adekunle Adebayo before an Osogbo Magistrate Court for allegedly defrauding his secret lover, Roseline Olaoye and her husband, Samuel Olaoye to the tune of N515,000.

The accused, said to be a timber contractor, was charged to court by the Police on Thursday on a four-count charge bothering on fraud.

It was gathered that Adebayo was having secret affair with Roseline who later introduced him to her husband, Samuel for business transaction.

The charge sheet read in the open court disclosed that the suspect committed the offence in January, 2016 in Osogbo.

It added that the accused person did fraudulently obtain the sum of N515,000 from the couple with the pretence of supplying them plank of woods and also help them in purchasing a plot of land.

According to the charge, the offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 419,383(2)(f),323 and 133(9) of the criminal code cap 34 vol. 11 laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

Adebayo pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge slammed against him.

The defence counsel, Wole Olaleye sought Adebayo’s bail and asked that the conditions be made affordable.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Saheed Anifowose did not opposed the application, stating that the court holds the discretion to admit bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Fatimoh Sodamade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in the like sum.

Sodamade said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and submit evidence of tax payment of 3 years attached with an affidavit of means.

The surety would also provide the court with 3 passport sized photograph while the address should be verified by the Police.

The case was adjourned till March 22, 2018 for hearing .
