Lafarge Reveals Projects In Cross River Communities

A major cement manufacturer, Lafarge Africa Plc, has revealed some projects in its host communities in the Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The projects renovated are three blocks of classrooms at Mfamosing Primary School in Mfamosing; a remodelled palace at the Akamkpa LGA, Clement Emayip, and a community notice board.

Speaking at an event tagged ‘2017 Community Day’, held at the Mfamosing Primary School, the Country Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge, Mr. Michel Puchercos, said the event was a further demonstration of the company’s commitment to supporting community development in line with its 2030 sustainability plan.

Puchercos, who was represented by the Mfamosing Plant Manager of the company, Mr. Peter Robson, explained that the 2030 plan of Lafarge focused on people and communities.

The ceremony attracted a lot of dignitaries and traditional rulers from the 10 host communities.

Puchercos said, “We recognise our host communities as our progressive partners building together and for tomorrow, while ensuring that we continually leave positive footprints that will impact on our hosts in the communities in which we operate.”

He said the 2017 Mfamosing Plant Community Day was the first of its kind and planned to be an annual event as part of the company’s initiatives to strengthen its relationship with its host communities and the Cross River State Government.

As part of the corporate social responsibility interventions of the company, Puchercos announced that Lafarge had a range of other community projects across all the 10 host communities.

He said, “This year, we have provided bursary awards to 100 secondary school beneficiaries across all our host communities. To further reinforce our commitment to education, we have carried out renovations of classroom blocks in Akansoko and Mbobui in addition to Mfamosing and provided 300 dual writing desks in selected secondary schools across our host communities in the Calabar Municipal LGA.”
