June 12 Declaration As Democracy Day Is A Desperate Move To Score Cheap Political Point – NDCP Tells Buhari

The Nigeria Democratic Congress Party NDCP has identified “Political Desperation” as the motive behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration of June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day.

It described the decision of the President as subtle and tailored to score a cheap political point ahead of the 2019 General Elections.

Dr Johnson Edosomwan, the Founder and Presidential Candidate of the party in a statement he signed on Thursday observed that the decision if not politically motivated should have come before now.

Edosomwan said the choice of the 25th Anniversary of the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election when the next commemoration holds is geared to dissuade Nigerians from the hardship the current government has put the country in.

He wondered why a government that has been slow in making the Nigeria project work be fast to hurriedly approve what he had not recognized in the last three years.

“We however must ask why it took the ruling party three years to come to this decision. The slow pace of decision making has been a major source of concern with this administration.”

The NDCP however praised the efforts of the acclaimed winner of the June 12 Presidential Election, Late Chief Moshood Olawale Abiola and pro-democracy actors for standing firm in the struggle for the Democracy Nigeria enjoys till date.

“NDCP fully recognizes and appreciates the sacrifices of late chief MKO Abiola in Nigeria’s struggle for democracy. Chief MKO Abiola remains a national icon that deserves to be honored.”
