THE Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to empower the South-West Security Network, codenamed Amotekun and local security organisations to curb the rising kidnapping cases in the State of Osun.
Speaking at this year’s Oodua Festival held at the Palace Square, Ile-Ife, the National leader of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) said the state has to use Amotekun to achieve maximum security.
Adams while responding to questions on the recent kidnapping cases in Osun, said Oyo and Ondo states were funding Amotekun well compared to the other states in the South-West.
He said: “The Governor of Osun should empower the local organisations and the Amotekun. They will complement the effort of the police and other security agencies.
“Security is not about the government alone, all hands must be on deck to make sure we have adequate security. The government should coordinate local organisations, Amotekun, and Nigeria police to achieve a very good result.
“The governors have their way of solving their problem. Oyo state boosted Amotekun, mobilised up to 3000 and give them all equipment and they have been doing well.
“In Oyo and Ondo states, Amotekun is doing well but in Ekiti, Osun and Ogun, Amotekun is not pronounced like those two states. Lagos state is not doing it. We have to use what we have to achieve what we want”.
Adams had earlier advised the South-West Governors to invest in tourism sector to boost their Internally Generated Revenue.
“We have thousands of tourists destination in the South-West but our governors did not look into that. Their mindset is to be collecting money in Abuja every month, we cannot continue like that and grow”, he said.
