Insecurity: Civil Defence Upgrades Training Curriculum For Capacity Building

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has upgraded its training curriculum to enhance capacity building of personnel.

The Commandant General, NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi revealed this while speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday.

Audi said organisation that didn’t go through training would experience low productivity,

adding that training not visible in security agencies could make capacity of personnel not enhanced.

According to him,” there is this popular saying in military and paramilitary that “discipline starts from training.

“So what we did when this administration came on board was that we worked on our policies and our training schools, we tried to resuscitate them.

“In fact, we upgraded our training schools curriculum to meet the current situation in the world, to meet the standard practice in the world, especially now that in Africa, we are beginning to experience asymmetric conflict.

“You know, asymmetric conflict and history is really tough.

“If you have been following how asymmetric conflicts started and dealt with some other countries like in the case of Sri Lanka, it held Sri Lanka for over 2 decades and we are seeing this is what is happening in Nigeria, ” he said.

He said we have to upgrade our curriculum to be in tandem with what is happening so that our people, our personnel will now be equipped to do their job.

“We have introduced and made categorically our trainings to be in two sections; we have the regimental training and we have the capacity building training.

“Capacity building training in terms of workshops, conferences etc, while the regimental training is the one that you do it using the parade drill and three pathology to instill in them.

“And we also teach them how to even conduct themselves, bringing our SOP in place, our code of ethics and conduct and the rest, ” he said.

Audi said that the Corps was after robust productivity and an enhanced service ultimately to Nigerians believing that there was always light at the end of the tunnel.
