The Rajnandgaon police in India have arrested a Nigerian national, identified as Johnson, for allegedly orchestrating a marriage scam, EtvBharat has reported.

The 40-year-old suspect reportedly lured a woman from Chhattisgarh on a matrimonial website using a fake profile.

He allegedly duped her of Rs 15,72,000 after promising to marry her.

According to the police, Johnson claimed to be a UK-based businessman planning to relocate his business to India.

After connecting with the victim, he, through an associate, falsely stated that he was detained at Delhi airport and needed funds to exchange UK currency in his possession.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Rahul Dev Sharma, revealed that Johnson, with the help of an accomplice, blackmailed and cheated the woman.

“Our team conducted a raid, arrested him, and recovered a laptop and four mobile phones. Johnson, a Nigerian national, has reportedly deceived several women. We are gathering more information during interrogation,” Mr. Sharma stated.
