A Nigerian man, Joel Smith, has been arrested by Indian police, for illegal possession of heroin.
According to Tribune India, the Special Task Force, in Mohali, arrested Smith with 270 grams of heroin and Rs 1.80 lakh ($2,568), on Thursday.
Rajinder Singh Sohal, the Superintendent of Police, said they nabbed Smith near a petrol pump following a tip-off.
SP Sohal added that Smith resided at Tilak Nagar in New Delhi. “He was on his way to supply drugs to his customers here in Mohali and Chandigarh when he was nabbed,” said SP Sohal.
During the preliminary interrogation, Joel Smith confessed that he came to India on a tourist visa in 2014 and never returned to Nigeria.
Smith has been charged under Sections 21, 61, 85 of NDPS Act and Section 14 of Foreign Act.
