Health Care: Osun Citizens Reveal Expectations From New Government

Citizens of Osun have set agenda on their expectations for the Gboyega Oyetola administration with regards to the management of the health sector in the state.

The residents who spoke with this medium were of the opinion that the new governor should consolidate on the health programmes and achievements of his predecessor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

Speaking, Alhaji Ibrahim AbdulMalik, a community leader in Baruwa Estate charged the new governor to take the issue of care for the aged serious, as it was done under the previous administration for eight years.

According to him, “Aregbesola came up with the Agba Osun scheme and through that, many aged citizens were on the treatment list of the state government.

“The state government also came up with a programme to treat its citizens’ eye problems by partnering with MTN Foundation.

“All these are laudable programmes that the people of the state enjoyed and would want the present administration to continue with”.

Also, Mrs. Christiana Oladunjoye, a business woman urged the new administration to focus on the health care benefits for mother and children in order to reduce the rate of mortality amongst pregnant women and children under the ages of five years.

“It has been proven that the survival of a society depends on the health of the mother and the child. So, in that wise, mothers and their babies should be given adequate health care attention so as to ensure their survival”.

A health care practitioner, Mr. Christopher Adeleke stated that the Osun Health Insurance Scheme was a laudable achievement from the immediate past government which the present one should continue.

He called on the health ministry and its agencies to co-operate with the government in bringing the state at par with the international best practices in health sector.

“I do not think Oyetola has any problem when it comes to continuing in the footsteps of his predecessor. We know he may have his own plans for the state health sector but he should build on what he met.

“By continuing that, I mean he should improve on what he met. He has a giant achievement to equal and I am sure he is equal to the task. We do not have any fear that he will succeed”.
