The Development Advocacy Group, (DAG) has commended the Government of the State of Osun for adopting proactive measures to combat the spread of Corona Virus in the state.

In a statement by the Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Mr Ibrahim Wasiu, DAG notes that since index case was reported in Lagos late February, the government had put up a high powered body incharge of surveillance, awareness and other issues relating to the pandemic to be on top of the situation.

“That the COVID-19 committee was inaugurated just few days into the news of the index case in Nigeria attested to the seriousness of the government and value for the live and wellbeing of the citizens”.

“Its noteworthy the controlled influx of the Cote de’ivore returning with suspected cases of the Virus which the government responsibly managed, not minding that some of the affected persons were not natives of the state.”

DAG observes that despite misgivings and misinformation in some quarters , Governor Gboyega Oyetola acted with utmost patriotism by not repatriating those who were not from the state, but attended to the medical needs of all, a development which saved the spread of the virus to other state.

The Statement also salute the courage and the prompt response of the intervention committee comprising of eminent natives of the state, set up by the government as they have made tremendous contributions to see that the challenge is confronted without recourse to any primordial sentiment.

The group lauded the efforts of some political office holders and citizens of the state who provided palliatives to support the efforts of the government”

DAG also commended residents of the state for cooperating with the government in observing the lockdown order to halt the spread of the Virus.

It further appealed to the people to endure the period in the general interest of the state.
