Fuel Scarcity Hits Osun Schools, Lectures Cancelled, Students Struggle To Commute

The lingering fuel scarcity across the nation has disrupted the academic activities of schools in Osun State.

Checks by Osun Defender showed fuel sold for between N750 and over N1,000 per litre.

The scarcity has also brought about extreme black market prices, with fuel going as high as N2,000/litre in some places in the state.

Scores of students were left stranded due to severe fuel scarcity, which crippled transportation services.

From Ile Ife to Ilesa, Ede, Osogbo, and other towns, commuters, including primary, secondary, and tertiary students, were left stranded on Monday as they struggled for a few vehicles on the roads to convey them to their different destinations.

The scarcity, attributed to increased demand and supply challenges, has led to a shortage of available public transport options.

It was revealed that most of the commercial motorists were unable to operate because they were in queues at filling stations in different locations in a bid to purchase fuel.

Lectures Cancelled

A lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University who craved anonymity told our correspondent that he had to cancel his class because of fuel scarcity.

He said, “I was moving around Ile Ife to get fuel on Monday but couldn’t see. I had no choice but to cancel my class that is scheduled to be held on Tuesday at 9 am. It is sad.”

Corroboratingly, a lecturer at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, who also does not want her name in print, said she couldn’t go to work because of the scarcity of petrol.
