Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji has assured citizens of the state of his administration’s efforts to ease their difficulty by making petroleum products available to them soon.

The governor stated this during the May Day 2024 celebration held at Ekiti Parapo pavilion, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state capital.

Governor Oyebanji while addressing journalists after the programme themed: “People First”, said his administration has intensified efforts to ensure that the premium motor spirit popularly known as petrol is supplied to Ekiti soon.

According to him, “I sympathize with the good people of Ekiti, it’s actually beyond our control and we are doing everything humanly possible to take the product to the state but the message we got this morning is that the product is not available in the country and they will start lifting by tomorrow.

“In the next few days, I expect this to ease. I will just appeal to them to be patient and to be calm”.

He also urged marketers in the state to desist from hoarding the product for the betterment of all.

Earlier, the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in their speech appealed to the state government to reinstate sacked workers of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU).

The chairmen of NLC and TUC in Ekiti state, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde and Comrade Sola Adigun said the reinstatement will bring succor to the affected workers.

“We wish to appeal for the reinstatement of sacked workers of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti who have been languishing in suffering and with untold psychological trauma in the face of economic quagmire.

“The reinstatement of the affected workers will bring succor to them and their dependents and make them live a happy life”.

They also frowned at the increase in electricity tariff and classified electricity consumers into Band classification when power generation and distribution is unstable and erratic.

While describing the policy as a deliberate attempt to inflict more pains on Nigerians, they called for its reversion in order to bring sanity to the country.

“We still find it unfathomable the essence of increasing the electricity tariff abnormally and classification of electricity consumers into Band classification when there is no corresponding improvement in power generation and distribution.

“The policy is another neo-colonialist induced and deliberate attempt not only to impoverish Nigerians but also to sniff life out of the small or large scale businesses and industrial sectors, government should be thinking of providing good environment that will inject life back into the economy of the country hence the policy must be reverted to the status quo, we join national leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress in its quest to bring sanity back to this sector of our economy”.’
