In a video posted to his official X account on Thursday, Humza Yousaf, the former First Minister of Scotland, condemned Elon Musk as “one of the most dangerous men on the planet.”

Yousaf accused Musk of trying to overthrow UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Rodney Starmer.

The criticism comes amid Musk’s controversial actions and statements, including his recent alignment with far-right figures and his promotion of anti-Muslim sentiments.

Musk has also voiced strong opinions about UK politics, especially since the Labour Party’s election in July.

For instance, Musk sparked outrage by calling for a new election and demanding Starmer’s imprisonment.

He posted an online poll to his 210 million followers suggesting, “America should liberate the people of Britain from their tyrannical government.”

Additionally, Musk has been retweeting criticisms of Starmer and popularized the hashtag #TwoTierKeir, which suggests that far-right protesters face harsher treatment than pro-Palestinian or Black Lives Matter demonstrators.

Musk’s social media activity has also focused on the issue of child sexual assault, particularly cases involving men of Pakistani descent in northern England.

In response, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer accused Musk of spreading falsehoods and misinformation aimed at destabilizing British democracy.

Yousaf argued that Musk’s recent actions represent a broader global trend where powerful individuals use their platforms to normalize prejudice, sow division, and spread disinformation.

“Elon Musk needs to be stopped. This isn’t just about one tweet or one individual. It’s about a pattern we are seeing globally, where powerful individuals with massive platforms are amplifying harmful rhetoric. They’re normalizing prejudice and all to create division and spread disinformation.”

The former Scottish leader had previously warned that Musk was one of the world’s most dangerous figures.

Yousaf contended that Musk was using his vast wealth and influence to meddle in politics, both in the US and the UK, with troubling far-right inclinations rooted in anti-Muslim sentiments.

“Last summer after he farmed the racial intolerance here in the UK, I warned that Elon Musk was one of the most dangerous men on the planet. Everything that he has done since then has only confirmed that view. Not only has he used his vast billions to muscle his way into the White House, but he is also now attempting to subvert democracy by trying to overthrow the democratically elected prime minister of the UK.

“But what is motivating Musk? Worriedly, it is his far-right sympathies driven by anti-Muslim hatred that seems to be the driving force for the world’s wealthiest man. He supports Tommy Robinson, a man who called Islam a violent fascist ideology. Musk supports Geert Wilders, who has called for the Quran to be banned, comparing it to Mein Kampf, and he supports the AFG in Germany, a party that has an entire chapter of their manifesto titled ‘Islam does not belong to Germany.'”

“If Elon Musk had been around in the 1930s, his actions and rhetoric suggest he might well have been amplifying the dangerous far-right populism of that time, just as he does today,” he warned.

“And of course, history has taught us the catastrophic consequences of allowing hatred against a community to go unchecked. Ignoring Musk and the far right is not an option. We need to take them on and we must confront the divisive rhetoric.”
