Roxy Getter, an eight-year-old girl from Florida has become the youngest girl ever to reach the top of Mount Kilimanjaro – the highest mountain in Africa. This came after she was given the all-clear by a cardiologist to partake in climbing the mountain, after having open heart surgery done at the age of one. Roxy is however now recorded as the youngest girl ever to have reached the top of the famous mountain.
The youngest boy is Keats Boyd, who was seven when he achieved the feat in 2008.
Roxy completed the four-day hiking trek with her parents, Sarah and Bobby, her brother Ben who also has heart problems and two guides. Delighted at her achievement, Roxy in an interview said her brother cheered them on during the tough trek.
“I didn’t think I would make it to the top, but I did. We could barely walk. We could barely talk. It was rough. But he was amazing, talking and leading the way. I like that I made it because it was really, really hard,” she said.
