EDITORIAL: Caution For Osun Progressives

EDITORIAL: Caution For Osun Progressives

THE State of Osun has particularly been blessed beyond measures within the space of the last twelve years. Taking stock of projects and programmes rolled out by the progressive administrations of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and his successor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, one is bound to have on the inventory a catalogue of prolific harvest. Making cumulative inference by juxtaposing these with achievements by earlier administrations, the state is well-endowed with democracy dividends.

A sad trend which puts the sustained progress the state currently witnesses under palpable threat is the spate of unnecessary tension, tantrums, altercation and name-calling, noticed all around, especially on the social media.

The pill becomes more bitter to swallow when one notices that the aggressors are most usually members of the same family of progressives. This constitutes unnecessarily heating up the polity.

At this stage and time in our history, the pace and sequence of development should not be hampered. We are counselled to tend more toward those elements that unify us, shunning all divisive tendencies. Never before had the adage that says “united we stand, divided we fall’ found relevance to us than now.

We caution that those fanning embers of discord, or rather those who thrive on creating stormy weathers should eat the humble pie. Let us extend olive branches to one another with consummate genuineness. The incumbent administration is best enjoyed when it is considered and operated as legacy administration which is premised on further raising the bars of quality governance well put on course by its predecessor.

The All Progressives Congress is one – indivisible. While supporters and admirers of the two leading political figures are enjoined to give peace a chance, we call on party leaders and executive across its hierarchy to mediate in whatever are the perceived differences and enforce caution among all shades of gladiators. A crack in the wall is creating a cleft of intrusion for hordes of rabblement among the opposition.

We also sue for timely intervention by elders, whose hoary hairs and wealth of wisdom will do lots of good in putting the house of progress in order.

Together, we will attain loftier heights and soar higher in delivering the greater good.
