Economic Hardship: Stop Giving Palliatives To Governors – Osun CSOs Tell Tinubu

The Osun Civil Societies Coalition (OCSC) has asked President Bola Tinubu to stop giving out billions of naira to state governors to provide palliatives for the citizens.

According to the coalition, the increased allocation to the state has not brought succour to the suffering masses, asking the President to chart a better cause that will stem the tide of the economic hardship.

Addressing the leadership of various civil society organisaions in Osogbo yesterday, the Chairman of the OCSC, Comr. Waheed Lawal, urged members of the public to get ready for a mass action that will commence on Monday.

Lawal, who led other civil society figures from Nelson Mandela Freedom Park to Olaiya Junction to create awareness for next week’s mass action, said the IMF and the World Bank’s economic ideas of President Tinubu have brought nothing but hardship to Nigerians.

Lawal said, “President Bola Tinubu must look beyond giving millions of naira as palliatives to governors to address their hungry subjects but rather find a lasting solution to the sufferings of Nigerians.

“The IMF and World Bank are behind the subsidy removal and devaluation of naira. These two policies that President Tinubu adopted have brought hardship and starvation to the people. We don’t want it again.

“This is to create awareness for next week’s mass action which is going to be nationwide. We are encouraging the people to join us in this struggle.”

The Director of the Ola-Oni Centre, Comr. Wale Adebisi, emphasised that the protest awareness in Osogbo signals a precursor to the nationwide protests scheduled for February 27 and 28.
