A former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, on Tuesday dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to join Social Democratic Party (SDP).

He also declared his intent to run for president in the 2019 general elections under the SDP.

Duke said he left the PDP after 20 years because it had derailed and lost its values and was not the same party he joined back then.

Duke, a two-term governor of Cross River State, announced his decision at the national secretariat of the SDP on Tuesday afternoon where he was received by the SDP national secretary, Shehu Gabam and other party leaders.

Duke in an interview last Sunday, said that Nigeria is an underperforming and underachieving nation due to poor leadership.

He pledges to, however, deal with the “civil war” across the country, tackle the economic situation, get soldiers motivated and get Nigeria’s credit system working among others if he emerges as the president.
