Do Not Allow Distractions Affect Your Academic Performance, Okanlawon Charges Students

A former Special Adviser on Information and Strategy in Osun State, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon has charged students to do away with distractions of any form that may hinder them from achieving academic excellence.

Okanlawon made the call on Wednesday, at the orientation programme organised by the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS) Unilorin Chapter Ilorin, Kwara State.

The orientation programme tagged; “Balance Between Academic Excellence and Capacity Building”, was aimed at equipping the newly admitted students of the institution with the required information, mindset, and admonition to achieve academic excellence whilst in the university.

According to Okanlawon, “Focus, and seriousness are the watchwords for you being on the campus. You are here for a purpose, and a time, depending on your course of study. I want to admonish you to get serious with your studies and have that focus.

“Have your eyes on the ball and do not entertain any form of distractions that are capable of affecting your academic performance. Those of you who are the leaders of the association, I want to congratulate you for even volunteering to be a part of this effort, it is a noble thing to offer yourself for leadership positions”, he added.

In his opening remark, Professor Adeoye urged all students to ensure that they remain focused and also put in as much effort to ensure that they achieve academic excellence in their various course of study.

Also speaking, the Chairman of ASUU-Unilorin chapter, Dr. Alex Akanmu, harped on the need for students to stay focused particularly in the academic environment.

The programme also had in attendance the Sub-Dean, of the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Oyabambi, Oladosu Amos, the author of The Battle of Ai: Strategizing for Substantial Success, Student Union President, Unilorin, Hauwa Usman, Student Union Presidential Candidate Unilorin 2021/2022, and Helen Animashaun, SDG 10 Advocate among others.
