Court Remands Suspected Cultist In Prison Over Murder

A 27 years old man, Adewumi Adeyinka has been remanded in Ilesha prison by an Osogbo Magistrate court over alleged murder.

According to the charge sheet, the accused person committed the alleged offense on August 5, 2017, at about 06:50hours at old garage area in Osogbo.

The charge sheet stated that the accused person conspired with others at large to commit felony murder and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 324 of the criminal cap. 34 Vol. II laws of the Osun state of Nigeria 2002.

It further disclosed that the accused person unlawfully killed one Bintu Anifowose by shooting her with a gun which caused her death and committed an offense contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319 (1) of the state criminal law 2002.

It further disclosed that the accused person is a member of an unlawful society, contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the state penal code.

It was said that the accused and others at large did engage themselves in an unlawful society named Black Axe confraternity and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 64(a)(b) of the criminal code cap. 34 Vol. II laws of Osun state Nigeria 2002.

The prosecutor, inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun told the court that mere looking at the charge sheet, the accused person was not the only one that committed the crime adding that others had earlier been arraigned before magistrate court 1 and the adjournment date is on the 6th of November, 2017.

Inspector Fagboyinbo, therefore, prayed the court to adjourn the matter for the same date so that the case could be properly addressed.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Aishat Oloyade restricted the plea of the accused person to the other four-count charge leveled against him except the one bordering on murder saying, “There is no room for such plea, the case is a murder case”.

Oloyade, therefore, ordered the accused person to be remanded in Ilesha prison and adjourned the case till November 6, 2017, for hearing.
