Council Staffers Trained On Conversion Of LGs’ Accounts

Local Government staffers in the State of Osun on Wednesday began a three-day workshop on Conversion of Local Government Accounts from International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS) Cash to IPSAS Accrual. 

The workshop, organised by the State Auditor General for Local Governments, State of Osun, was to equip all Directors of Finance and Supplies, and Internal Auditors of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in the State for the challenges of IPSAS Accruals implementation.

The participants were charged to be diligent in the discharge of their duties.

In his address, Osun Auditor General for Local Governments, Mr Emmanuel  Kolapo, stated that the transition to IPSAS Accruals implementation in the state requires diligence, adequate knowledge expertise and commitment of operators of the Local government Administration and Finances.

He said the training was organized to bridge the knowledge gap that exists in the system.

Osun Commissioner for local governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Kolapo Alimi, applauded the AG for Local Government for the timely organisation of the workshop.

He submitted that the workshop would go a long way in improving the knowledge and efficiency of local governments staffs.

He said, the introduction of IPSAS to the Local governments council is very important to make the local governments accountants compete with their colleagues all over the world.

The Head of Service, Dr. Oyegbade Gboyega in his goodwill message at the workshop expressed confidence in the crop of officers holding positions in the local government as capable of delivering excellent services.

The Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Elder Tunde Adedeji, also applauded the Auditor General for local governments for the initiative.

He commended the set of Council Managers, Heads of Finance and Internal Auditors present for their sense of responsibility at work and warned them against any form of leakages of fund in the system.
