Community development activities have been described as catalyst to rural transformation and national development.
The observation was made by the Executive Secretary, Isokan South Local Council Development Area, Ikoyi-Osun, Hon. Oyelami Wasiu at a meetings with various stakeholders, including the Olukoyi-in-Councils, Baale-in-Councils, Community Development Associations, Artisans, Social Clubs, Religious leaders, Market men and women, Members of NURTW and Road Transport Workers Association, Okada Riders, Individual and groups on how to increase the Internally Generated Revenue for the LCDA.
A statement by the Principal Information Officer of the council, Ademola Aminu said the meeting held at the palace of Olukoyi of Ikoyi land, Oba Yisau Bamitale where the stakeholders were charged to support the administration towards bringing development to the grassroots.
Oyelami who noted that it is not possible with the current economic situation of the country for government alone to meet all the needs of its citizenry said, there is need for residents of Ikoyi and its environs to engage in self-help project as a way of improving the socio-economic development of the council.
Urging the stakeholders to carry their civic duties by paying their taxes, dues and other levies, he said, this is a major way through which the council could harness resources for the development of the various communities.
Advising the stakeholders to be patronising Anajere Market in Ikoyi, every five days and visit the LCDA Secretariat for registration of streets, clubs/associations, Certificate of lands from the town planning department among others. He said that this would also boost the IGR of the council.
Oyelami then urged the stakeholders to let peace and tranquility reign in their ·domain, saying, this is the only prerequisites for true community development projects.
