Council Boss, NURTW Chair Decry Low Pace Of Market Construction

The Chairman, Ilesa East Local Government, Otunba Akeem Adesoji Olowoopejobori has decried the low pace of work on the construction of Sabo market in Ilesa, saying the report reaching him about the ongoing construction work was not encouraging.

According to a statement by the council’s Information Officer, Kazeem Opatunji, the council boss expressed his displeasure while receiving in his office, the Chairman, Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers, Ilesa branch, Alhaji Lekan Salami during an unscheduled visit to the management of the council.

The council boss decried the pains being experienced by the marketers at the market as there is no place to hide their goods during harsh weather or raining on market days.

He appreciated the cooperation of the marketers for their supports and payments of their rates on each market days and called on the Governor of the state to prevail and hasten the contractor handling the project so as not to jeopardise the good intention of transforming the market into a modern one.

Otunba Adesoji thanked the NURTW chairman for the visit and series of encouragement, stating that the visit was like tonic for him that would encourage him to remain focused on his plan to transform the council to an enviable one among its peers.

Earlier, Alhaji Lekan Salami urged the newly-elected members of the parliament in the council to always think of the legacy they would leave behind at the expiration of their tenure.

He commended the efforts of the Governor at developing markets in the state with the aim of diversifying the economy and improving the Internally Generated Revenue of the state but decried the slow pace of the project at the market since the demolition of all the existing structures on the site.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Ilesa East and other elected officers in mother councils and LCDA’s in Ijesaland were hosted for a brief in the council secretariat by Zonal Coordinator of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Prince Adeniyi Elufadejin.

Prince Elufadejin described the newly elected officers as products of constitutionalism.

He stated that every public officer is required to submit to the bureau, a written declaration of all his properties saying, the beginning of their tenure must be marked by asset declaration which will then be followed by physical inspection.

Elufadejin enjoined all the political office holders to fill, sign and submit the forms within 30 days in their own interest.
