President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the government and people of Benue state over the explosion of a tanker which left scores dead.
A tanker laden with petrol exploded in Ahumbe village on the Alliade/ Makurdi federal highway in the Gwer east local government area of the state on Monday.
In a statement by Femi Adeshina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Buhari expressed concern over the loss of lives and properties.
He prayed for the repose of the lost souls and wished those receiving treatment speedy recovery.
The president urged Nigerians to exercise caution when handling flammable materials, especially petroleum products, in order to prevent similar casualties.
He commended the efforts of those offered immediate assistance to those injured in the incident.
