BREAKING: El-Zakzaky, Wife May Return To Nigeria Today

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigerian, IMN, popularly known as Shiites, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky is on his way back from the Indian hospital where he had gone to receive medical attention.

The spokesman for the IMN, Ibrahim Musa, confirmed to DAILY NIGERIAN that the Shi’ite leader would begin his return journey back to Abuja at 5pm Nigerian time.

Also, according to a tweet by the Zakzaky Office, Mr El-Zakzaky is expected to arrive Abuja at 17:00 hours Nigerian time.

An accompanying video clip on the Twitter handle also showed Mr El-Zakzaky explaining that the Indian hospital had agreed to allow him and his wife Zeenat to come back to Nigeria, following a stalemate over the choice of doctors to attend to them and the terms of treatment.

Recall that on Wednesday, days after arriving at the Medanta Hospital, New Delhi for medical attention, Mr El-Zakzaky had cried out over what he described as the pathetic and worrisome situation he had been subjected to in India’s hospital.

In an audio clip rendered in Hausa language, Mr El-Zakzaky lamented over the tight security around him in the hospital as well as their refusal to allow his personal doctors to supervise his operations.

However, in a swift reaction, the Federal Government had attributed the alleged travails faced by the Shiite leader at the Indian hospital to his unruly behaviour.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Culture, Grace Isu-Gekpe, said El-Zakzaky began to display ulterior motives against laid down procedures by refusing to subject himself to preliminary medical checks at the hospital.

According to her, he also requested that his passport be handed over to him but the State officials would not budge to his pressure.

“In addition, he demanded free movement and access to visitors of all kinds as well as requested to be allowed to check into a 5-Star Hotel instead of being admitted in the hospital.

“The request was refused on the ground that he came into the country for medicals and not as a tourist (more so that his Visa was issued on medical grounds and not for tourism).

“He also demanded that Police protection be withdrawn from him by the Indian authorities.

“Against medical ethics and standard practice, he requested to nominate Doctors of his choice to join the ones tasked by Medanta Hospital to perform medical treatment on him and his wife,” the statement read in part.

The permanent secretary added that El-Zakzaky’s behaviour created a stalemate, which the Hospital insisted that he would not dictate to it on the choice of medical personnel to carry the required medical treatment.

Frustrated by his antics, she said, the Indian authorities expressed willingness to return him to Nigeria with immediate effect, on the account that they would not allow him to use their country to internationalize his group’s activities.

Mrs Isu-Gekpe, therefore, called on Nigerians to disregard El-Zakzaky’s foul cry that he was being held in circumstances worse than he was in Nigeria.
