Bandits Attack Military Camp In Niger

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked a military camp in Zazzaga community, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.

The bandits engaged soldiers on the ground in a gun battle that lasted two hours.

A source said the bandits recorded heavy casualties but Daily Trust cannot independently verify this claim.

Over 60 bandits, it was learnt, carried out the latest attack around 4am.

Sources said the bandits invaded the Zagzaga community in three groups.

It was learnt one group went to the Military Camp located at the Junior Secondary School while the second group laid ambush on the major road to the community.

The third group was said to have gone into the community to prevent any reinforcements from the vigilantes and youths.

The bandits were said to have engaged the soldiers in a gun battle for about two hours, which led to injuries on the part of the attackers.

It was learnt no soldier was killed in the attack but a soldier identified as the RSM of the camp has been declared missing.

His whereabouts remain unknown as at the time of filing this report.

The bandits set one of the military vehicles ablaze when the soldiers retreated and burnt the food store in the camp.
