The Court of Appeal has rejected the request made by Governor Adeboyega Oyetola to relocate the election petition tribunal on the July 16 governorship poll to Abuja.

Oyetola had through one of his counsels at the tribunal, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, wrote the President of the Appeal Court in a letter dated August 23, 2022, to request that the tribunal be moved to Abuja for security reasons.

But the Appeal Court, in a letter dated September 21, 2022 and directed to Fagbemi, insisted that the tribunal’s sittings will continue to hold in Osogbo, capital of the State of Osun.

The appellate court said security agencies in Osun have assured it on the security of the tribunal and its sittings.

A copy of the letter signed by Acting Chief Registrar of the court, Umar M. Bangari, reads: “I am directed by the Hon. President, Justice M.B Dongba-Mensem to inform you that after due consultation on, and

consideration of your request to move the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal currently sitting in Osogbo to Abuja, the Hon. President is unable to accede to your request as security agencies in the state have assured the court of their co-operation and support in enhancing the security of the tribunal and its sittings.”
