Bill Seeking To Jail Protesters Withdrawn

Honourable Emeka Chinedu of the Federal House of Representatives has withdrawn the controversial bill seeking a 5-year jail term for protesters.

Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, read the letter of withdrawal sent by Chinedu at plenary on Tuesday.

Outrage had trailed the bill since its introduction on July 6, 2021.

However, Chinedu denied sponsoring a bill to jail protesters, saying he was misquoted in the media.

Acknowledging the letter, Gbajabiamila said “It’s your prerogative. The bill is hereby withdrawn.”
