Members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Benue State chapter, have said the demand of the members of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) were baseless and untenable.
The association, which comprises members of the Federal Medical Centre, (FMC) and Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), all in Makurdi, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Makurdi, on Saturday.
The doctors, in the statement, informed members of the public that the demands of JOHESU, which included earning equal pay with with doctors; appointment as consultants; appointment as medical doctors/chief medical directors; heads of units/departments, among others, were baseless and untenable.
The statement, which was signed by the state chairman and secretary, Dr Obekpa Obekpa, and Dr Nwaeze Chukwuemeka, respectively, said the members refused to be part of the strike, aimed at paralysing healthcare services.
