BayelsaDecides2023: Gunshots As Hoodlums Invade Polling Units, Hijack Election Materials

Hoodlums have attacked some polling units in the Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa State during the governorship election and hijacked election materials.

It was gathered that the hoodlums came with sophisticated weapons on Saturday and shot back at voters who attempted to stop them.

The thugs who arrived at Agorogbene in units 6, 7 and 8 in Ward 11 of the Local Government Area around 9am, allegedly escorted by a certain politician and chased away voters while they also destroyed election materials.

The armed thugs also stormed the RAC center and carted away election materials for five out of the seven units.

The ward 11 leader of one of the parties was alleged to have led the armed thugs.

At Ogiadiama ward 9 in Unit 14 of the Southern Ijaw Local Government area, gunmen also stormed the unit but the quick intervention of security men foiled their activities.

Sporadic gunshots were also reported to have been heard around the Imbikiri area of Brass Ward 2 around 3.30 am on Saturday.
