The Nigerian Army has announced the successful neutralisation of Aminu Kanawa, the deputy to notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, along with other key commanders and allies during recent operations in the Northwestern region.

In a press statement issued by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the military detailed its success in operations conducted between Monday and Tuesday, resulting in significant blows to the terrorist network.

Troops successfully neutralized Aminu Kanawa, the second-in-command to Bello Turji, while inflicting terminal injuries on Dosso (Bello Turji’s younger brother) and Danbokolo, a close ally of Turji.

Other neutralized commanders include Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe.

The operations, targeting camps in the Gebe and Isa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Sokoto State and Gidan Rijiya in Shinkafi LGA, Zamfara State, also resulted in the elimination of over 24 fleeing terrorists.

In a separate encounter near the Fakai high ground, Suleiman, a loyalist of the late terrorist leader Halilu Sububu, was killed during a firefight while attempting to lead a rescue mission for Turji’s camp.

Major General Buba described these successes as a major setback for the terrorist network, which has been responsible for numerous kidnappings and violent attacks in the region, particularly in Zamfara and Sokoto states.

Troops remain resolute in their mission to dismantle these terrorist groups and ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

The offensive comes just days after Bello Turji and his men attacked a mosque in Birnin Yaro village, Zamfara State, during Isha prayers.

Turji and his group disrupted worshippers and abducted an unspecified number of them, reportedly planning to use the victims as human shields against military operations.

Following this attack, Operation Fansan Yanma, involving coordinated ground and airstrikes, dismantled Turji’s key hideouts in Fakai, Shinkafi LGA, and other camps in Sabon Birni LGA.

A school used by Turji’s network for food and weapons storage was destroyed during the strikes.

The death of Turji’s second-in-command, his younger brother, and other key allies represents a critical blow to the group’s operational capabilities.
